Over the last week it has been necessary, out of an abundance of caution, to implement some Covid isolation measures at Balmain Presbytery and St Augustine’s Church. These precautions will continue until next Saturday 8 January when the normal weekend Mass schedule will resume with the Saturday morning Mass at 9.15 am.
Balmain/Rozelle has not been the only parish affected by the greatly increased number of Omicron Covid infections but we have been lucky in having clergy available to help out. Bishop Terry and Fr Victor ensured a full schedule of Masses over Christmas and Fr Gerry Gleeson, our Vicar-General, and Bishop Terry are celebrating our Masses this weekend. Many thanks to each of you.
I was intending to spend a couple of weeks taking a break in Melbourne and Hobart between New Year and 15 January but the ongoing Covid pandemic has made it practically impossible to get away. One can only hope that after this latest outbreak, Covid 19 will now settle down to an unspectacular life as a member of the common cold family and leave most of us alone most of the time.
I wish to thank you – the parishioners of Balmain and Rozelle – for your patience and understanding as we have struggled to keep up with and comply with the ever-changing Government regulations concerning Covid 19.
Let us pray for God’s blessing upon the Church, the world, our country, our families, and our friends, as we face the challenges of a new year of Grace, the year of our Lord 2,022.
Fr Richard Waddell
