MODERN
SLAVERY
50 million people are estimated to be trapped in some form of modern slavery in the world today.
41,000 victims estimated in Australia (according to the Global Slavery Index).
Modern slavery describes slavery and slavery-like practices including forced labour, child labour and human trafficking.
At the core of this crime is deception. Victims of modern slavery are often vulnerable, coming from areas where there is little possibility of work. They are offered a job, a chance to make money and to build a new life for themselves.

CAS MODERN SLAVERY STATEMENT
Australia’s Modern Slavery Act 2018 requires entities with annual consolidated revenue of $100 million or more to submit annual Modern Slavery Statements. These statements must outline the risks of modern slavery in their operations and supply chains, the actions taken to assess and address those risks and how the effectiveness of those actions is measured. The Act promotes transparency and continuous improvement, encouraging organisations to move beyond compliance toward meaningful risk management and ethical practice.
Key elements of the CAS Modern Slavery Risk Management Program include:
- A policy which outlines our commitment to prevent and manage modern slavery within our operations, business partnerships and supply chain;
- Assessment of modern slavery risks within our operations and supply chain and the development of effective, efficient and transparent controls to manage and mitigate risks;
- Adopting due diligence measures for review of suppliers and business partners coupled with a requirement that they implement systems and processes to effectively manage their own modern slavery risk;
- Raising awareness, engaging and educating Staff Members and other key stakeholders so they take individual responsibility to identify modern slavery practices and take practical steps to prevent and manage risk; and
- Implementing a robust contact system escalation protocol and remedy pathway to ensure human rights impacts caused by our activities are effectively addressed.
