Day of the Unborn Child –
The Solemnity of the Annunciation

“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” (Lk. 1:26-39)

The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, celebrated on the 25th of March, commemorates the message of the Angel Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Incarnation of Christ. Exactly nine months before the Nativity of Our Lord, this feast honours Mary’s faithful obedience to God, expressed in her humble Fiat, through which the Word was made flesh.
Internationally recognised as the Day of the Unborn Child, this day invited us to reflect on the inherent dignity of the unborn child and to remember in prayer those whose lives have been lost to abortion.

O God, who willed that your Word should take on the reality of human flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary, grant, we pray, that we, who confess our Redeemer to be God and man, may merit to become partakers even in his divine nature. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. – Collect for the Annunciation.
