5th Sunday: Casting the Stone

07 Apr 2019

In today’s Gospel comic, the Pharisees proclaim that by law, the adulterous woman must be stoned to death. They pass judgement on the sins of others without recognising their own sinfulness.

Today, we are being challenged us to be merciful before we judge others, being aware of our own weaknesses.

REFLECT
1. Do I judge others too harshly?
2. How can I be more merciful, especially to those who commit sins that offend me?

Did you know? There is a common belief that the adulterous woman was Mary Magdalene, but there is no direct link between the two by Biblical authors.

PRAY
O Lord, I want to be completely transformed into Your mercy
and to be Your living reflection.
May the greatest of all divine attributes,
that of Your unfathomable mercy,
pass through my heart and soul to my neighbour.
Help me, O Lord, that my eyes may be merciful,
so that I may never suspect or judge from appearances,
but look for what is beautiful in my neighbours’ souls
and come to their rescue…
Amen.
