Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP welcomes National Redress Scheme

The Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, welcomed today's announcement by the Federal Government of a National Redress Scheme for victims of sexual abuse.
“I very much welcome this development as a major step forward in the recognition and compensation of victims of child sexual abuse,” he said.
“As a concept the Archdiocese has supported a National Redress Scheme along with the Truth Justice and Healing Council and I am pleased the Federal Government has listened to the Royal Commission in recognising this as a positive way forward.”
“It is a scheme supported not only by the Catholic Church but other churches, institutions and survivors of sexual abuse and their families.”
“It is a very positive development and now we await the detail and exactly how it will be delivered.”
