The spectacular Lights of Christmas colour projections on the facade of St Mary's Cathedral will be "switched on" tonight in the forecourt of the Cathedral at 8.30pm

The Lights of Christmas has become a Sydney tradition featuring many different scenes projected on to the Cathedral's main entrance and spires, all highly decorated in a creative colour palette.

This year the display will feature the theme of "Peace" and present universal and familiar Sydney light displays. There will also be Renaissance artworks of Madonna and Child.

"The season of Christmas encourages us to examine our conscience and think of ways to better ourselves and our world," said the Creative Director of AGB events, Anthony Bastic.

Attorney General, Hon Greg Smith will arrive at St Mary's Cathedral at 8.15pm tonight and be met by His Eminence, Cardinal George Pell and the Dean of the Cathedral, Fr Paul Hilda.

The Australian Girls Choir will sing on the steps of the Cathedral before the Minister and guests are welcomed and thanked by the Cardinal.

Mr Smith will also make some remarks before the lights are "switched on" and the colour projection begins.

The Lights of Christmas will light up the Cathedral and forecourt area up to and including Christmas Eve.

Like last year many families are expected to come to the city to view the display during the Christmas season.

However people around the world will once more have the opportunity to see the display when the Sydney Archdiocese social network Xt3.com streams live on the web the Lights of Christmas on Monday 19 December at 8.30pm.

Lights of Christmas is sponsored by the NSW Government.
