12 noon - 4.00pm:    Festival of Faith
5.00pm:                      Mary MacKillop Feast Day Mass inside the Cathedral
6.30-9.00pm:             Live webcast from Rome of Canonisation in Cathedral forecourt

Bishop Julian Porteous will preside over Mary MacKillop's Feast Day Mass inside St Mary's Cathedral followed by a community gathering in the forecourt of St Mary's Cathedral to watch the Canonisation Ceremony streamed live from Rome on a large screen from 6.30pm.

Media Security passes will be required for photographers to enter the Cathedral (no filming or audio permitted).

There is no restriction and no passes needed for outside the Cathedral in the forecourt area.

During the Mass inside St Mary's Cathedral:

  • There will be limited space and restricted areas for the media to take shots during the Mass (suggest media groups organise a pool within their organisations).
  • To make it easier on the security and the media we will be issuing accreditation passes for inside the Cathedral only.
  • For the photographers inside the Cathedral, positions need to be taken up at least 15 minutes before Mass begins.
  • Media cannot cross from one side to the other in front of the altar, that is, between the first three rows of pews and the altar.
  • Media cannot take picture from the centre aisle.
  • Media cannot move past the columns towards the centre aisle.
  • Please do not take close ups of attendees - especially during communion.
  • Please use available light and no flash - this has always been the general rule and has not proven difficult in the past with photographers.
  • Definitely NO webcasting, live streaming, direct feeds to websites, including newspaper sites, television or audio allowed.

We hope this meets your needs. St Mary's Cathedral staff have also been made aware of these requirements.

From 12pm-4pm in the Cathedral forecourt there will be Festival of Faith celebrations. The Festival is hosted by the Knights of the Southern Cross and will involve a Pavilion of Faith displays, a multicultural FoodFest, a jumping castle, music and celebrations throughout the day.

No accreditation needed for Festival of Faith in Cathedral forecourt only.
