The Open Day will give future students a taste of life at Notre Dame

Sydney's leading university for 'Overall Quality of Educational Experience' invites all those considering university studies onto its Sydney Campus on Saturday 27 August to experience the unique Notre Dame community.

Notre Dame will open the doors of its Broadway and Darlinghurst campuses for future students and their families to explore the University, meet leading academics and learn why Notre Dame has consistently excelled in critical university indicators such as receiving 5 star ratings in the Good Universities Guide for nine consecutive years.

According to the recent Federal Government's 2016 Quality Indicators for Learning & Teaching, Notre Dame is the top university in Sydney for Student Support and Overall Quality of Educational Experience, Graduate Employment and Median Graduate Starting Salary; and is also the top university in Australia for Skills Development.

Notre Dame Bachelor of Theology student, Teresa Culjak, said Notre Dame's reputation for being widely respected amongst employers and preparing students for the outside world had influenced her enrolment.

"It's great to know that Notre Dame is widely respect by employers, and that they're also teaching the students how to get jobs - preparing them for the outside world, that it's not just about what you're learning it's about the person as a whole," Teresa said.

"But I think what makes Notre Dame unique is that Christ is really in the centre of this universe. Coming to this university you're guaranteed that you're actually going to be taught the teachings of church, faithfully handed down."

Teresa said her aim was to start a mission school in Croatia. "I have a Croatian background and I'd love to start a school for the young people there - and since beginning my degree here at Notre Dame I've already had job offers, so it's quite exciting."

Teresa's inspirational calling has seen her work in various agencies of the church at both a national and an international level for the past ten years. "I felt it was time I formalised my qualifications in order to achieve more," Teresa said.

Professor Margot Kearns, Pro Vice Chancellor Notre Dame Sydney, said the University's Open Day would give people the best possible opportunity discover what Notre Dame had to offer.

"Throughout the day, future students will be able to speak directly to School Deans, lecturers and current students about study and career opportunities within the University's Schools of Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Law, Medicine, Nursing, Philosophy & Theology and our Academic Enabling & Support Centre," Professor Kearns said. "They will also be able to find out about the University's unique admissions process."

Located in the heart of Sydney at 104 Broadway, Chippendale, Notre Dame is nestled between cafés, shops, restaurants and city buildings which lend a distinctive character to the University community experienced by its students.

For those aspirational teachers, Notre Dame is the only university in NSW to offer the IB certificate embedded in its undergraduate Primary and Early Childhood teaching degrees. This can significantly expand local and global employment opportunities for Notre Dame Education graduates.

From 2017, the University will offer a Doctor of Medicine to replace the existing Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery. The four-year postgraduate course, contains all the hallmarks and distinguishing features of Notre Dame's medical program with additional emphasis on bioethics and applied research experience for all students.
