Xt3.com An Evangelisation Project of the Archdiocese Launches Advent App

24 Nov 2016

The Archdiocese of Sydney social network xt3.com has released the Xt3 Advent Calendar 2016 with the theme 'Prepare your heart to receive Christ'.

Xt3.com's Advent Calendar 2016 is a free app but is also accessible on its website, featuring daily meditations, videos and podcasts for the Christmas season, providing people with the means to encounter the true spirit of Christmas in their everyday lives.

This year, the calendar looks at the Nativity scene through the eyes of a child. Xt3.com has featured the winning artworks of the '2015 Christmas Story Art Exhibition' adorning the Xt3 Advent Calendar with beautiful images of the Nativity scene. These have been painted by children in Years 5 and 6 from Sydney schools and surrounding areas.

Amidst the artworks, the App contains reflective weekly videos highlighting words of love and compassion from Saint Teresa of Calcutta, who was canonised this year. The App also features reflections on Christmas carols such as 'Angels We Have Heard On High' and 'O Come All Ye Faithful,' as well as questions and answers from Xt3's 'Ask a Priest' forum.

The Xt3 Advent Calendar is available as a tablet and Smartphone App

The first door of the Calendar will open on the First Sunday of Advent, 27 November 2016. With new content every day, including messages from Pope Francis and Sydney's Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP, App users will be able to open a new door of the Calendar every day until Christmas Day and then onto the Feast of the Epiphany.

Advent comes from the Latin word meaning "coming." Jesus is coming, and Advent is intended to be a season of preparation for His arrival. While we typically regard Advent as a joyous season, it is also intended to be a period of preparation, much like Lent. Prayer, penance and fasting are appropriate during this season.

Advent is not as strict as Lent, and there are no rules for fasting, but it is meant to be a period of self-preparation, a preparation of the heart.
