St Patrick's Cathedral at Parramatta was packed with family and friends, students, teachers, civic leaders and priests on Wednesday who gathered for a Mass of Thanksgiving to God on the Occasion of the Farewell of the Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, Archbishop-elect of the Sydney.

"Faith, hope and love: this is what the Church is for, what this Diocese is for - what the Bishop is for," the Most Rev Anthony Fisher said in his Homily.

"Happily our people express their faith not just at Church but in lives of Christian leadership, service and devotion, and above all in making their homes domestic churches.

"As the Bishop of Parramatta, it has been my privilege to feed their faith."

The farewell Mass was the culmination of many farewells for the Archbishop-elect who will be officially installed as the ninth Metropolitan Archbishop of Sydney next Wednesday evening at St Mary's Cathedral.

During the week there have been both small and large farewells and thank-you get-togethers and tomorrow the youth of Parramatta will gather for a special farewell at St Patrick's Church Blacktown at 11.30am.
