While Iraqi's cast their votes and even after polls closed explosions were heard across Baghdad and other cities on the weekend. In the city of Mosul the anti-Christian violence has increased over the past fortnight causing the death of at least eight people and hundreds of families to flee their homes. Pope Benedict XV1 and several Christian leaders have expressed strong words of disapproval and appealed to the country's authorities to put an end to the blood bath and restore justice.
