Benedict XVI: Christ saves us from the ills of the spirit

Pope Benedict XVI celebrated Mass on Sunday morning, September 27th, at Brno in Moravia, the second city of the Czech Republic. The central theme of the Mass was Christian hope. In his homily, the Holy Father emphasized the need to build our lives on Christ. The Pope said that although technical developments and the improvement of social structures are certainly important and necessary, they are not sufficient to guarantee the moral well-being of society.

Before the Angelus, the Pope recalled that Moravia is a land rich in Marian shrines and was the place from which John Paul II began his travels in Central and Eastern Europe after the end of communism. The Pope then urged the faithful in the land of Saints Cyril and Methodius to keep their traditions alive.
