Justice & Peace

The Justice and Peace Office promotes justice, peace, ecology and development through projects and activities based on the social teachings of the Catholic Church.

These projects and activities include:

  • Educational opportunities and resources to promote a deeper understanding of and commitment to the Church's social mission amongst the people of the Archdiocese;
  • Collaborative action to assist agencies and organizations to address concrete challenges in the areas of justice and peace; and
  • Advisory activities to enable the Archdiocese to respond to social issues from a Catholic perspective.

The Justice and Peace Office is comprised of Dr Steven Lovell-Jones, the Justice and Peace Promoter, and Ms Chantelle Ogilvie, Research and Project Officer.

The office operates under the supervision of the Chancellor and the direction of the Archbishop.
Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney Justice and Peace Advisory Council

The Advisory Council was established in 2006 to offer advice to the Cardinal Archbishop through the duly appointed Promoter of Justice and Peace. The Council is responsible to the Cardinal Archbishop and reports to His Eminence through the Chancellor.

The members of the Advisory Council are: Dr Michael Costigan (Chair), Rev Dr Neil Brown, Fr Gregory McGregor, Fr John Usher, Mrs Maureen Eagles, Mr Francis Molloy, Mrs Elsie Heiss and Dr Steven Lovell-Jones.
